Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta

Merry Christmas everyone!

I hope for Christmas you got your Xbox One and Halo the Master Chief Collection because on December 29th 2014 the Halo 5 Guardians Multiplayer Beta will begin.

On December 19th a select lucky few who are in the Xbox Preview Program, like myself, were given special codes to enter the Beta during that weekend. Rest assured, I unfortunately missed it but I'm overly excited for it. Be careful out there, others have already had their hands on it for a weekend so the bar has been set.

The Halo 5 Multiplayer Beta, during the course of it's three week run, will have various unlockables in the form of new maps, new armor, and variations such as visor colors. Your spartan customization resembles what we've seen in Halo Reach and Halo 4.

The Beta will also add new abilities to the Halo universe.
Thruster Pack: The thruster pack will enable you to jet forward to close in the gaps between you and an opponent or side to side for evasion.

Ground Pound: The ground pound is exactly as it sounds, your spartan will come slamming down with a devastating aerial attack.

Clamber: For the first time ever you will be able to clamber up those ledges that you just missed.

Sprint: Sprinting is nothing new to the Halo franchise however this time around you have unlimited sprinting ability to move around the arena or to give you two more spartan abilities. The catch however, once your shields are down, you can still sprint and move to cover, but your shields will not recover while sprinting.

Slide: Once you reach terminal velocity you will be able to hit your crouch button and slide, enabling you to slide in under danger.

Charge: Hitting the melee button while running will cause you to charge into an opponent knocking out their shields.

Smart Scope: Smart scope will allow you to scope and fire with every weapon as they will now be tied to your hud.

To see these abilities in play, and if you haven't seen the ViDoc yet, I've embedded it below from IGN.
Remember, the Halo Multipler begins December 29th and will run for 3 weeks. Red and Blue, time ot suit up!

Ultron Watch

The Internet was abuzz yesterday and subsequently let down.

Rewind a couple of months to the San Diego International Comic Con, July 26th 2014. Marvel held it's panel for yep, you guessed it, Avengers Age of Ultron. All the stars walked on stage minus Scarlett Johansson and we were introduced to Elizabeth Olen (Scarlet Witch), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver) and the voice of Ultron himself James Spader.  Scarlett Johansson who could not be there prerecorded a video and basically said "play it for them" (I'm probably paraphrasing). The lights went down and the audience was given a taste of Avengers Age of Ultron.

No, no one was supposed to record the video and online someone did post the audio; however in a room full of about 300 people cheering and being awestruck by what they were watching, one can guess it's not the best of quality.

That's it. Nothing else. For weeks everyone painstakingly (yours truly included) scoured the Internet for some remnant, some morsel of Ultron that we can bestow upon ourselves. Fake video after video reared it ugly head as if to mock us!

Guardians of the Galaxy would premier on August 1st and maybe it would be shown then.... only to be denied. Marvel cited "We wanted to make sure Guardians of the Galaxy had it's time in the light before the trailer would be released."

Someone who was at SDCC decided to make a fan video, cleaning up and re posting the audio and story boarding the entire trailer, much like was done for Ant Man from SDCC 2008. This was going to have to do until Marvel would finally unveil Age of Ultron to the world.
Then one day an image of Ultron from SDCC appeared online. One single solitude picture of Ultron that would slip. When I planned this blog post last night I searched for hours only to come up empty handed with that picture; as if someone went and cleaned up the Internet. It was gone. I happened to be searching though my phone pictures and then there it was, Ultron!

Alleged photo from Age of Ultron trailer.
Two days ago Disney officially released the synopsis of Avengers 2.

"“Avengers: Age of Ultron,” the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. When Tony Stark tries to jumpstart a dormant peacekeeping program, things go awry and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow and Hawkeye, are put to the ultimate test as the fate of the planet hangs in the balance. As the villainous Ultron emerges, it is up to The Avengers to stop him from enacting his terrible plans, and soon uneasy alliances and unexpected action pave the way for an epic and unique global adventure."

Then yesterday, on Robert Downey Jr's FB page was this post.

"Seeing as how Tuesday is the most productive day of the week, I'll not decrease the efficiency. TOMORROW AM, however, I'll throw a surprise your way... "

That same day Mark Ruffalo released a small video on his instagram and tumblr where he simply stated "It's coming." (I've seen it although now it cannot be found.)

FINALLY! This was like a bad Hollywood Baby watch situation but now, with the synopsis released by Disney and two stars hinting at the coming of Ultron we were finally going to see what has been so hidden for months.

Yesterday Robert Downy Jr released the second trailer for his movie the Judge. The Internet wept in disappointment. Let down. After all this time, what seemed to be clues, we would still come up empty handed.

I went back to the drawing board. All of this had to be for naught. All these clues and missed opportunities with Guardians of the Galaxy, the DVD/Bluray release of Captain America Winter Soldier,  the DVD/Bluray release of Agents of SHIELD...... and then there it was. HOW could I have missed it!

ALL ABOARD THE AGENTS OF SHIELD TRAIN!!!
Agents of SHIELD! Agent's of SHIELD season 2 is set to premier on September 23rd 9pm EST. Season 1 had a great premier week but ratings fell fast. One thing season 1 did was every time a new movie trailer would come, it would premier during Agents of Shield. We got Thor 2 (as well as a few episode tie ins), Captain America 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy. Why would Age of Ultron be any different? Agent's of SHIELD needs to bring the fans back into the fold and with  the new direction they are taking it may not be enough. SOMETHING will have to make everyone watch. That something I believe is the Avengers Age of Ultron trailer. It's the perfect timing as Guardians of the Galaxy has had it's time and is out of most theaters and Agents of SHIELD will need the higher ratings to kick off. So I'm calling it, if not the first week, it will be the second week to bring watchers back as it may be teased during the credits after the show.

50 Years of the Avengers

"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born—to fight the foes no single super hero could withstand! Through the years, their roster has prospered, changing many times, their glory has never been denied! Heed the call, then—for now, the Avengers Assemble!"
—Prologue from The Avengers used in the 1970

Marvel comics was created out of Timely Comics (1939) in 1960 however it would not be for another 3 years in 1963 when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby would bring "Earth's Mightiest Super-Heroes" together to form the Avengers.

Avengers #1 first issued September 1st 1963 and was composed of Ironman, Thor, the Incredible Hulk, Ant-Man, and the Wasp, a little different line up than what we were given in Marvel's the Avengers movie showcasing Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye, and Black Widow organized by Nick Fury.

Just like in the movie the first issue brought forth the nefarious Loki God of Mischief / Evil. In both renditions Loki tricked the team into battling the Hulk however the movie used it as a plot point to set forth Loki's war for the Tesseract aka, the Cosmic Cube.

Issue #2 we started to see the line up change as Ant-Man became Giant Man and the Hulk left the Avengers sensing that they feared his unstable persona. The search for the Hulk brought the Avengers into contact with Namor the Sub Mariner who in issue #4 would bring from the depths of the ocean the Avenger's most iconic leader, Captain America.

Over the years the many different incarnations of the Avengers.

The West Coast Avengers  was created by Clint Barton aka Hawkeye, who's roster comprised of  Mocking Bird, Wonder Man, Tigra and War Machine (believed to be Iron Man) in an attempt to branch out with the Avengers.

The New Avengers title brought us some of our favorite Marvel Super Heroes as Avengers consisting of Captain America, Iron Man, Spider Man, Wolverine, and Spider Woman.

Shortly after Marvel's Secret Invasion with the Skrulls the Dark Avengers seemed to run havoc all over the Marvel Universe with virtually opposite of some of our favorite Avengers of past. We had Daken son of Wolverine, Mac Gargan as Venom in place of Spider Man, Bulls Eye in place of Hawkeye just to name a few and was run by none other than former Green Goblin Harry Osborn as the Iron Patriot.

In the last 50 years the Avengers roster has come to include some of the worlds most famous super heroes and villains be they a human with an iron suit, a God, a mutant, an alien symbiotic suit, or simply a super soldier. There is no question as to how far this time will go and who they will recruit, the only question left is when will your favorite hero become one of them.

August 28th 1917 - February 6th 1994
Nurdgasmic would like to take a moment to honor the legendary Jack Kirby. He passed away on February 6th 1994 however would have been 96 on August 28th this year. Born Jack Kurtzberg, he was an American comic book artist and a veteran of WWII. With out you and your vision, not only for the Marvel Universe, comics would not be what they are today. We would be remiss on a day like to day talking about the Avengers and not mentioning you. Our world is now full of color with the characters that you helped create. Your work has inspired millions of would be aspiring comic artists. Thank you for your contributions in art and thank you for your service to your country.

I still believe in heroes. -Nurd!

Has Transformers 4 Been Shattered?

A leaked call sheet made it out to the internet a few days which had some very revealing information. So much that Paramount quickly censored it all over the internet otherwise I would share it with you now but what the call sheet revealed is something that made nerds squeal everywhere, the Dino Bots are coming to Transformers 4!

That's news that makes my heart just sing and as of recently, a new logo has been spotted adorned a baseball cap on location. The logo still resembles the other with a few minor changes, one, claw marks have been placed on the logo "Jurassic Park" style reinforcing the idea that the Dino Bots will be present and color has also been added, which is the focus of this blog entry.

The color that has been added is red however reflects the Decepticon logo. What does it mean? Immediately after seeing this image I thought one thing, Shattered Glass.

Shattered Glass is a multiverse story that popped out of Bot-Con in 2008 and best left to the Bot-Con introductory blurb describing such an anomaly.

"On a world known as Cybertron, a ruthless and cruel tyrant prepares his army for an all-out attack. Their destination: a planet rich in resources, known as Earth! Only a small band of rebels stands between this evil warlord and his plans for universal conquest. If these brave soldiers are unable to stop the attack, then there will be nothing to prevent this shattered universe from falling victim to the maniacal Optimus Prime and his evil legion of... Autobots?

This is a truly malformed universe, where the Decepticons are heroic and the Autobots are evil!
Coming this spring, the battle lines will be drawn and a new champion will emerge. A young and noble Decepticon will stand up and fight for freedom, the freedom which is the right of all Transformers! Advising him will be his trusted lieutenant Starscream and his fellow virtuous Decepticons. They will fight to the very last to stop the spread of Optimus Prime's tyranny!"

That's quite a stretch however propaganda photos have also been spotted on the set for Transformers 4 also which indicate the possibility also, however also show that there is definitely a distrust between humans and the transformers in the new installment, be it Decepticon or Autobot.

So what really happened in what appears to be a 3 year time span since Transformers 3. Are all Transformers hated? Is there really a shift in who is an Autobot and who is a Decepticon? And if so, is Bumblebee the one who will bring hope to what may be a shattered universe brought forth by a rip in space and time via the destroyed space bridge?

Well I may be getting ahead of myself here but the fun is in the speculation. I guess we won't know until more information comes forth.

X-Box One Pulls a 360!

With the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) now over and the dust settling Microsoft has taken a step back from their DRM gaming stance and has made it more user friendly.

July tenth Microsoft announced the latest X-Box, the X-Box one and from the get go, had mixed reviews. When the X-Box One (XB1) was announced there was a heavy focus on the features and new functions of the system with it's new voice commands, gestures, and Kinect 2.0 but what had everyone talking was how it would play games.

The XB1 was originally announced that all games would no longer be disk based and would be saved to the HDD or the Cloud and would require you to have a constant connection to the internet to verify your disk copy. Your copy would be verified once every 24 hours on your own home console or once every hour on a friends console if you were playing games elsewhere.

This enables a really neat feature like up to 10 "family" members having access to play your games, even one with you at the same time. The downfall was an extremely restricted  "giving" policy and made borrowing games and renting impossible. (Microsoft did say that they would work on a way for renting and borrowing games but it would not be available at launch.

Microsoft took so much heat over it's DRM policy even Sony was throwing the low blows.

By the time E3 came around nothing new had changed and it seemed like Microsoft was standing firm and publicly announced that the newly designed X-Box 360 would be the consumer's choice for a non connected customer.

Fast forward to today, Microsoft has officially announced that due to consumer feedback, DRM would no longer be a staple of the system and that games can now be either installed to the HDD and Cloud or can now be played directly from the disk and that an internet connection would only be required at the initial start up of the system.

This is a welcome change and an audible sigh of relief could be heard across the gaming community today. What this means is that if you have the latest Call of Duty or Halo (TBD) and you want to loan it to your friend, you can just hand him or her the disk and they can play for as long as they want. If you don't have the latest Madden come NFL season, you can go rent it.

In order to make this change however, Microsoft had to make some sacrifices. What was sacrificed was the ability for 10 "family" members to have access to your library for play and if you want to play with someone, you both must now own the game. It's a small price to pay but in my eyes, very worth it.

So what do you guys think? Is this a welcome change? Has your faith in Microsoft been restored? I for one will now be running out to pre order my X-Box One now!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has just been picked up by ABC and tonight is your chance to view the first preview trailer. During the season finally of Once Upon a Time a teaser for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will air, so check your local listings.

There's no real saying over what the series will consist of however the official ABC description of the series is

"Clark Gregg reprises his role of Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films as he assembles a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. Together they investigate the new, the strange, and the unknown across the globe, protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary. Coulson’s team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) expert pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker); brilliant engineer and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet). From Executive Producers Joss Whedon (“Marvel’s The Avengers,” ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”); Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” pilot co-writers (“Dollhouse,” “Dr.Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog”); Jeffrey Bell (“Angel,” “Alias”); and Jeph Loeb (“Smallville”) comes Marvel’s first TV series.  “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television."

Prior to being ripped from the Internet by Disney, the preview managed to sneak online a couple of days ago. The preview went on to showing Abomination's destruction of Harlem from the Incredible Hulk with the water mark "Rising Tide." There is a picture of someone named Skye and being labeled as a possible collaborator. One might also wonder if the series is set to tie the MCU together just a little bit tighter and maybe introduce concepts that will later be used in the movies.

Let me introduce you to your Agent's of S.H.I.E.L.D.

TMNT in the Streets

Pictures seem to be popping up all over the internet from the set of Michael Bay's TMNT reboot.

The film was hit with extreme prejudice when it was first announced that Michael Bay himself would be helming the reboot. Later as time progressed we would learn that the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were not mutants at all and would drop the 'Teenage." Shortly before the film was silenced and deemed postponed until further notice, we learned that the turtles were actually aliens rather than mutants and the title was simply "Ninja Turtles."

Through small corners of hope I heard it was leaked that the original script called for the turtles to actually come from Dimension X, which is core to the turtle mythology.

I have always enjoyed Michael Bay films and the Transformers movies remain some of my favorite movies of all time. I held strong and had faith that we would not be let down. I know that Michael Bay always seemed to lead a campaign of misinformation in order to keep his projects secret. Even on the set of Transfomers 3 he kept repainted versions of the Twins from Transformers 2, the duo that helped the movie, yet they were never in Dark of the Moon.

As the set images come in we still do not have a lot of information of how the movie will play out but below are a few pictures that will tell us more.

First and foremost, we have Megan Fox casted as April O'Neil. While Megan Fox would not have been my first choice, I do believe she will be a decent choice.

When she was removed from Transformers 3 for some comments she made and then reconciled with Michael Bay I figured we haven't seen the last of this combo and here we are.

April O'Neil has a signature look of red hair and a yellow jumpsuit, made famous from the 1980's cartoon series. That look has carried on and here she is with tinted red hair and a yellow jacket. Modernized for today's look I fully accept the yellow jacket. I mean, it's partly how we know she is supposed to be April. Her hair, not so much. Megan Fox has brown hair and since it is only tinted we don't get the feeling that April is the redhead that we all know and love.

Ofcourse a few other things we can take from this picture is that she is standing behind a news van. Yes, that's right, I'm going to make the assumption that April O'Neil will be a news reporter rather than other recent iterations of her that we have seen such as a high school student or a scientist. Also take note that the van has a New York license place also leading to believe that yes, just like the core material, it will take place in New York City. (If it didn't I would lose all faith in humanity.) Lastly, although you cannot see his face, the person facing her is comedic actor Will Arnett. Will Arnett has been recently listed as playing Vernon Fenwick, April's camera man and rival news reporter, further insisting our core material to be the 1980's cartoon canon.

Fellow SNL alumni Abby Elliot is also listed as being casted for an unknown role. My guess is she may bring April's sidekick Irma to the big screen for the first time.

Here we have the new Foot Clan. As you can see some liberties have been made but I don't think it really detracts from where they come from. You can see in comparison to the original TMNT movie there is quite a difference as they now wear some kind of armor. The face masks are even different, however now they lend the idea that they actually originate from ancient Japan. The poles they are carrying don't have anything to do with armament (I hope) but are more of what you find your local dog catcher using (more on that later). Overall, I think the new look for the Foot Clan brings them up to date however unlike the 1980's cannon I don't have a sense that they are robots and with the new appearance, they look more like thugs.

In this picture we see some more Foot Clan with some assault rifles in the top left. It makes me wonder if the Foot Clan will lose it's history as being a ninja clan in lieu of a clan that offers a protective detail and attack force for the Shredder. This picture also shows the Foot Clan operating during the day time so that also leads me to believe that they may not operate under the cloak of night. Lastly in this picture we see 3 motion capture suits with shells so that means only one thing, they've taken the turtles!
This is yet another very telling picture to me as far as the plot is concerned. We see three motion capture suite turtles shackled. We now see why they have the poles. We also see elaborate shackles for their hands and feet which would prohibit movement for the turtles. Looking even close we can tell which turtles have been taken hostage, Michelangelo, Leonardo, and Donatello. Motion capture suits also create a wire frame based on points located on the suit. Looking at this picture, I notice Donatello will have a smaller frame than the rest of the turtles, which tells me that he may be on the lankier, nerdy side we see in the new TMNT cartoon or he may actually be a she! Yes, part of the problems with the first bit of information is that Donatello is actually Donnie, a sister turtle. Of course we won't know that until we actually see mock ups of the turtles. Last but not least, we only see three turtles, not four, and the only one missing is Raphael, who may have escaped capture if not captured previously.

Lastly I want to leave you all with this. The reboot eventually dropped it's name to simply Ninja Turtles, which was too broad of a title and left a lot of room for liberties that were taken. In the end it still seems some liberties may have been taken however so much has stayed true to it's core so I am remaining with high hopes. With the outcry of fan disapproval they pulled the movie back for rewrites and made changes however we will not know for sure until the movie goes to press. What I can give is faith restored that, as if a backwards pedal, even the initial title has been restored!
